About UtilityWatch

UtilityWatch strives to provide a information and education so that consumers and owner-members have access to a variety of facts and opinion regarding monopoly utilities that provide electricity, telephones and natural gas. Members have included knowledgeable and respected people from management, boards, former employees and interested consumers.

UtilityWatch was formed in 2000 to monitor local activities by Matanuska Electric Association, Matanuska Telephone Association and Enstar. While none of these monopoly utilities are perfect, MEA often raises the greatest concern for owner-members and consumers. MTA and Enstar have been relatively quiet in terms of consumer concern.

MEA had been found to be non-compliant in December 1999 by the Regulatory Commission of Alaska (RCA) in the reporting of some expenditures.  A couple years later MEA attempted to eliminate regulatory oversight by the RCA.

UtilityWatch successfully fought for MEA consumers rights and continued oversight by the RCA.  No monopoly utility should be without government and citizen oversight.

Please help ask questions, find answers and share information so MEA co-op owner-members can make informed choices!
